6 New Trade Units For Bradford Business Park

Planning permission has been granted for six new trade counter units and a Burger King drive-thru restaurant in Bradford. Business up North reports that Opus North, an Ilkley based property developer, have received consent to build on a 2.8 acre site at Eccleshill Park, Harrogate Road, Bradford.

The site is well positioned for connections to major transport hubs, being easy to reach from the M62 and the M606. It is also a short 4.5 mile journey to Leeds Bradford Airport. As well as Burger King, Screwfix and Toolstation have been lined up to take two of the six trade counter units.

Commenting on the announcement Opus North’s managing director, Andrew Duncan said: “We are so pleased that permission has been granted. There has been a lot of interest in this proposed development and having secured Burger King UK® as a tenant, we are very keen to get onto the next stage.

He added: “Our contractors will start on site towards the end of this year and we are aiming to have everything ready for occupation by Q3 of 2023.”

Opus North have a successful history of large scale developments throughout the north of England, encompassing retail and leisure parks, housing and residential blocks, and hotels and offices. They are working with marketing agency Carter Towler on the present Eccleshill Park scheme.

Hazel Cooper of Carter Towler said: “This is a really exciting scheme for us to be involved with, the number of enquiries we have been dealing with during this planning stage has been very encouraging and I’m delighted that we have already secured two great tenants on the trade counter scheme, in addition to the Burger King UK® Drive Thru.”

She added: “We have agreed lettings with Screwfix and Toolstation who will be taking 4,000 sq ft each at Unit 1 and Unit 3. The development is in an excellent location and there is already a Lidl supermarket and Starbucks thriving on the adjacent site. It’s fantastic that two of the properties have been taken even before construction has commenced.”

Bradford is undergoing a comprehensive regeneration programme, with the latest plans revealed for the city centre recently. The Telegraph & Argus reports that the venue for the City of Culture 2025 will receive a multi-million pound investment over the next five years.

The council have purchased the Kirkgate Shopping Centre in the city centre, with the intention of fully redeveloping the 50 year old facility. The domineering concrete structure will be demolished, and replaced with smaller retail units, housing, and open green spaces. Major retailers such as Primark and Sports Direct currently occupy the site.

Over the coming months, many of these shops will transfer to the Broadway retail centre. Councillors have promised to ensure that a good range of quality housing will be built in the city centre, to attract young professionals and families. The overall aim is to create a ‘City Village’ feel, and avoid soulless blocks of one-bed flats.
