£40 Billion Leeds Redevelopment Construction Starts

The best scaffolding companies Leeds has to offer will be in demand now the city centre redevelopment has started.

At a total cost of £40 million, it is expected that work on the fire damaged former cinema and nightclub will take place first, followed by the rest of the development.

It is expected the work will be finished next year, in 2019, and will include the transformation of City Square into high class offices.

These seven-storey offices will sit behind the building’s listed exterior, and while they will appear historical out front, they will be contemporary behind.

Leeds-based property firm Rushbond has appointed construction and civil engineering company Sir Robert McAlpine to oversee the development of the offices.

Rushbond real estate director Mark Finch said: “When complete in 2019, The Majestic will provide a stage for modern, forward-thinking, imaginative and ambitious businesses who are seeking a distinctive landmark presence at the heart of the Leeds city region.”

It is not yet known who will be working in the offices but they are open to either a single or multiple tenants. There is a total of 66,000 sq ft available in the building.

Construction activity has been soaring in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham, according to the latest figures from Deloitte.

There are currently 1,586 units under construction in Leeds, the heist since 2008. This lags behind Manchester’s 14,000 residential units, but is still an impressive growth.  A total of 16 new schemes started in the past year.
