Construction Confirmed To Continue During Lockdown

The prime minister issued a new lockdown on 7 January, that is expected to last until at least 15 February, and members of the public were ordered to stay at home, and work from home wherever possible.

However, the construction industry, including builders merchants, scaffolding hire & sale yards which have been classed as essential retail, has been permitted to continue to work throughout the strictest lockdown so far, and Construction Enquirer reports that construction workers will be getting access to regular rapid testing for the coronavirus.

Symptom-free construction workers, as well as many essential front-line workers, will be offered the rapid tests, which can return a result within 30 minutes, and employers are being encouraged to participate in large-scale testing.

National lockdown guidance published online after the Boris Johnson’s announcement states; “you can only leave home for work purposes where it is unreasonable for you to do your job from home, including but not limited to people who work within critical national infrastructure, construction or manufacturing that require in-person attendance.”

Tradespeople can continue as usual to work on and in other peoples homes while adhering to Covid social distancing guidelines.

While schools, colleges, and universities will be forced to close for the lockdown, several CISRS scaffolding training centres will be able to remain open, reports Scaffmag.

The government is rolling out a mass vaccination programme and aims to vaccinate around 13 million people by the middle of February and hopefully turn the tide on the pandemic. If you need COVID-secure scaffolders in Sheffield, talk to our team today.
