Construction Begins On £130m Goole Housing Development

Goole will soon benefit from a new housing development after construction of a £130 million project has begun.

Property developer Beal Homes has revealed it has started work on the 800-home scheme, which it hopes will play a huge role in regenerating the East Yorkshire town.

The project, which will be spread over 73 acres, is expected to take 12 years to finish, and will be the housebuilder’s largest development once complete.

Beal chief executive Richard Beal said: “We’re excited to begin work on site and to start to deliver on our long-term commitment to Goole.”

He added: “This development will enhance significantly the quality, availability and choice for local families and people attracted to Goole by the area’s growth opportunities.”

The Greenways, as it will be known, has already proved popular, as all 50 plots that were made available during the first phase were reserved within just three weeks of being released.

Despite delays to building work, which were caused by the coronavirus pandemic, residents are expected to move into the first properties between January and March 2021.

“The tremendous response to the launch of The Greenways showed there is significant pent-up demand for high-quality new homes, which has confirmed our confidence in Goole and its potential,” said Mr Beal.

Adding high-quality modern properties to Goole’s housing stock will complement the town’s ongoing investment and help it transform over the years.

Indeed, Siemens Mobility is set to build a £200 million rail manufacturing facility in the town, while construction of a worldwide distribution hub for chemicals company Croda is nearing completion.

Infrastructure and groundwork construction at The Greenways site have started taking place, while foundations for the initial 50 homes will be laid in early July. Bricks to these properties will be laid at the beginning of August, in order for the developer to meet its deadline. With such a huge project to complete, scaffolding contractors in Hull could be busy for some time.

Construction director John Goodellow said work finally commencing on the site is great news, stating: “In the current climate this development is a major morale boost for our staff, sub-contractors and suppliers and a statement of confidence in the housing market in Goole and the wider region in which we operate.”

Those looking for a new property in Goole could purchase one of Beal’s starter houses or executive homes. Two-, three-, and four-bedroom contemporary properties will be on offer, all with open-plan living spaces. They range from terraces to large detached homes with en-suite bathrooms, providing a lot of choice for different homebuyers.

One of the main reasons Beals Homes chose Goole as their destination for such a substantial project is its location.

Situated near to Hull, York, Leeds and Sheffield, it has good transport links to the biggest cities in the region. It is located just minutes away from the M62, which means drivers can also journey across the country easily.

The former port town, which was established in the 1800s, is growing in popularity due to its good-quality schools, colleges and nurseries, as well as its bustling bars and restaurants. Goole also boasts sports grounds, leisure centres and music venues that attract people from all over East Yorkshire.
