Sheffield Set For New Rental Development

Sheffield Set For New Rental Development

A build-to-rent developer has submitted plans for a major new development in Sheffield, Bdaily reported.

The news provider revealed that Placefirst is hoping to construct 113 family homes on a long-term vacant site in the city. All the properties will be available to rent, rather than to buy.

In its planning application, Placefirst stated that the scheme will “transform” the site off Sky Edge Avenue. This site has been waiting to be redeveloped for over ten years, and would make a difference to this part of the city.

All the properties will be three and four-bedroom family homes and the company plans to invest £16.5 million in the work.

If planning approval is granted, the company hopes to start construction in early 2019. David Milne, managing director of Placefirst, explained that the site will include new homes, as well as “professionally managed outdoor spaces”.

“More families are renting than ever before and the need for a reliable, quality offer has never been greater,” he told the news provider.

Mr Milne added that the properties Placefirst develops “offer a genuine, high-quality alternative for working families priced out of the housing market, or who prefer the flexibility of renting”.

Once planning permission is granted, the company will no doubt be keen to get scaffolders in Sheffield and other tradespeople onsite to begin work.

It’s not only in Sheffield where construction activity is on the increase. Figures shared recently by the Office for National Statistics revealed that construction activity in the north-west of the country is ten times the national average.
